YOUNGSTOWN

Allen Amorn, M.D., and Allan Katz, D.O., are the featured speakers at St. Elizabeth Heart and Vascular Center’s “The Beat Goes On,” a community social to raise awareness about heart disease.

The event is Feb. 19 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel Ave. Tickets are $20 per person. The doors open at 5 p.m., and the dinner starts at 5:15 p.m. followed by the program.

A Canfield native, Dr. Amorn, a cardiac electrophysiologist, will discuss updates in treatment and technology for atrial fibrillation. Also a cardiac electrophysiologist, Dr. Katz will talk about LifeVest, a wearable defibrillator designed for patients at risk for sudden cardiac arrest.

MS workshop

Psychologist Dr. Amy Sullivan, director of behavioral medicine at the Mellen Center for Multiple Sclerosis, is offering a workshop, “MS and Emotions,” from 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 21 at the National Packard Museum, 1889 Mahoning Ave. N.W.

The program, taking place in collaboration between the Pennyslvania Keystone Chapter and the Ohio Buckeye Chapter, is free, and breakfast is provided. The registration deadline is Feb. 13. Call 1-800-344-4867.

CPR/First Aid class

Easter Seals and Youngstown Hearing & Speech are offering an American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid/Automated External Defibrillators review and renewal course at the Easter Seals Main Center, 299 Edwards St., Youngstown, from 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 10; and at the Easter Seals Adult Day Center, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman, from 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 11.

A valid certification card for CPR/FA/AED is required to be eligible to take this course. A certification valid for two years will be awarded after completion of the course.

Healthy eating class

St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, 8401 Market St., is offering “Healthy Eating for You: Portion Control” workshop to learn what constitutes a single serving and how to manage portion size from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Registered dietician and community educator Bridget Lackey will lead the informational discussion and answer questions. The presentation, sponsored by Mercy Health Youngstown, formerly Humility of Mary Health Partners, is free and open to the public.

Heart failure seminar set in Pa.

HERMITAGE, PA.

Sharon Regional Health System’s Primary Care Resource Center is offering a free presentation, “The Failing Heart: Is it as Bad as it Sounds?” from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Diagnostic and Imaging Center, 2435 Garden Way, Hermitage.

The program, presented by Dr. Michael Burley, an interventional cardiologist with Sharon Regional’s Heart and Vascular Institute, is intended for heart failure patients and their families and support people.
