COST OF DRUG ADDICTION

Opioid drug addiction continues to escalate at epidemic proportions and is one of the most urgent medical and financial challenges facing Ohioans. In 2012:

Unintentional fatal drug overdoses cost Ohioans $2.0 billion in medical and work loss costs.

Nonfatal, hospital-admitted drug poisonings cost $39.1 million.

The total cost in medical and work-loss costs in the state averaged $5.4 million a day.
