Youngstown firefighters battle two house blazes
YOUNGSTOWN — City firefighters dealt with two occupied house fires Saturday.
About 3:30 a.m., crews were called to an 838 Dryden Ave. home and found a fire in a first floor room, reports said. The home had no heat and there were several extension cords and space heaters where the fire started.
The owner, another person and two dogs and cat all got out of the home safely. Damage is listed at $6,200. No one was injured.
About 1:45 a.m., crews were called to a 258 Crandall Ave. home, where two Youngstown State University students saw fire inside and pounded on the door of the house. Reports said the person inside said his smoke detector also went off at the same time the students pounded on his door. The fire spread to the cabinets and wall before it was put out, reports said.
