Pittsburgh man gets 20 to 40 for slaying his ex-wife’s beau

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh man who tried to flee to Mexico after killing his ex-wife’s new live-in boyfriend has been sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said 28-year-old David Edick was sentenced today after pleading guilty to third-degree murder for shooting Ryan Beal after breaking into Beal’s apartment on Aug. 31, 2013.

Edick was caught 12 days later by U.S. Border Patrol agents near the Mexican border in Brownsville, Texas. Those agents found the same gun used in the shooting loaded in Edick’s backpack.

The newspaper says Edick told an Allegheny County judge, “I accept full responsibility for this situation.”
