Super Bowl XLIX is here, so personal-finance social network WalletHub analyzed 142 U.S. cities with at least one college or professional football team to determine the best cities for football fans. The ranking was based on 11 metrics, including the number of NFL and college football teams and the performance of those teams; sports bars per capita; and average ticket prices. The list can be viewed at wallethub.com. Here are the top five:
v Green Bay, Wis.: The smallest market in the National Football League.
v East Lansing, Mich.: The college town is home to Michigan State University.
v Pittsburgh: This comes as no surprise.
v Denver: The Broncos were division champs for the past three years.
v Tuscaloosa, Ala.: The football-mad home of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.
Kitten Bowl II (noon, Hallmark Channel): Kitten Bowl II might be the purr-fect way to start your day. Ninety feisty kitties take to the field — when they’re not taking litter-box time outs.
“Puppy Bowl XI” (3 p.m., Animal Planet): Team Ruff battles Team Fluff as goat cheerleaders spur them on. An additional airshow with hamsters and a halftime performance by Katty Furry make this at least three times as exciting as that NFL event.
Super Bowl XLIX (6 p.m., NBC): Break out the hot wings and adult beverages. This year, the defending NFL champion Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots in Glendale, Ariz. Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth call the action, while Katy Perry provides the halftime entertainment — and Madison Avenue spends a fortune on silly commercials.
“Downton Abbey” (8 p.m., PBS): It’s not the Super Bowl, but maybe the characters will be playing cricket or polo or something.
“The Blacklist” (10:15 P.M., NBC): Airing in the coveted post- Super Bowl time slot, “The Blacklist” looks to pull in football fans with Part 1 of a turbocharged two-parter. It finds Liz (Megan Boone) in a race against time when Red (James Spader) is arrested and taken to a top- secret detention facility.
