Attorney Josiah Bournes was sworn in as a federal prosecutor Jan. 20 in the E. Barrett Prettyman Federal Courthouse in Washington, D.C. U.S. Atty. Ronald C. Machen Jr. administered the oath of office.

Attending the ceremony were his parents, Ronald and LaVerne Harrell Bournes, and paternal grandmother, Mary Hamilton, all of Long Beach, Calif. His maternal grandparents, Bennie and Anna Harrell, and his great-uncle and aunt, Warren and Iva Harrell, all of Youngstown, also attended.

Atty. Bournes is a graduate of the University of Santa Barbara in California and the Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C. His job duties are assigned to the U.S. attorney’s office.

SCOUTS

Bucyrus Wayne Palo of Boy Scout Troop 112 of Newton Falls has earned scouting’s highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award.

Palo will be recognized at a court of honor ceremony at 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at Amvets Post 112, 37 W. Broad St., Newton Falls.

As a member of Troop 112, chartered by Amvets Post 112, Palo is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Mike Gushura.

For his Eagle Scout project, Palo chose to build a sign and a park bench for the Newton Falls Garden of Hope, Cancer Garden on First Street in Rotary Park.

He has earned 31 merit badges, has served as Senior Patrol Leader for the troop and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow in 2013.

Palo is a senior at Newton Falls High School where he is active in football and track, winning the state championship in discus in 2014. He also attended Buckeye Boys State in 2014.

He is the son of John and Sherry Palo of Newton Falls.

Boy Scout Troop 112 is part of the Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America in Warren.
