ACTION Task Force Assembly set Feb. 12

YOUNGSTOWN

The Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing our Neighborhoods Task Force assembly is scheduled for Feb. 12 at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane, and will address issues in the Mahoning Valley.

The board meeting will be at 6 p.m. followed by the task-force session at 7. Each board member and clergy member is asked to invite people to the meeting.

ACTION also is preparing for its annual banquet set for April 23 featuring guest speaker Jim Tressel, president of Youngstown State University.

The ACTION session will address these issues:

Youngstown school review and charter schools.

Infrastructure in areas with unoccupied commercial buildings and vacant land and property available in the land bank.

Crime and Safety Task Force will work with local political leaders, law enforcement departments, business leaders and churches and schools to address blight, crime and safety problems on South Avenue and East Federal Street.

Racism.

ACTION will collaborate with Common Wealth and other organizations, political, business and community leaders to encourage production and purchase of locally grown food.
