POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Dec. 22

Scam: An elderly Elizabeth Street man told authorities he wired money to someone in New Jersey after a caller claimed his grandson had been in a vehicular accident and needed $1,280 to get out of jail.

Criminal mischief: A Hillcrest Avenue woman noticed someone had cut a strand of outdoor Christmas lights near her back porch.

Recovered property: A worker with a Youngstown-Hubbard Road car wash found a license plate that apparently had fallen off a vehicle.

Dec. 27

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 400 block of West Liberty Street resulted in the arrest of 23-year-old Todd A. Gasior on charges of marijuana possession and operating a vehicle impaired. Gasior, of Laurel Park Drive, Hubbard, had a bag of suspected marijuana; he also had a 0.181 blood-alcohol count, more than twice Ohio’s 0.08 legal limit, police alleged.

Dec. 28

Identity fraud: A Saul Drive woman discovered someone in Colorado had tried to open a credit-card account with her information.

Citation: Police issued a minor-misdemeanor citation to 39-year-old Deaun C. Florek of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, after an officer reported seeing on her property several garbage bags near a trailer, empty beverage containers, a boat with an expired license plate, large tree stumps and other scattered junk.

LIBERTY

Dec. 23

Theft: An official with Fire Foe Alarms Inc., 999 Trumbull Ave., reported a bookkeeper had discovered three unauthorized online charges totaling $1,116 on a company credit card.

Counterfeit: A woman reportedly passed a fake $50 bill at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

Dec. 24

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 200 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road was found with a shattered rear windshield. Damage was estimated at $500.

Theft: While at his Belmont Avenue bank, a Fifth Avenue man found out his account was overdrawn after discovering a $140 unauthorized transaction had appeared on his bank statement.

Domestic violence: A charge was pending against a 45-year-old Youngstown man after a woman alleged he came to her Madison Road home and threatened to kill the accuser who had a restraining order against him.

Dec. 25

Arrest: A 15-year-old township girl was taken into custody after her father reported she had run away.

Assault/criminal damaging: A Holly Drive woman alleged her boyfriend, of Youngstown, struck, dragged and threw her to the ground during what had begun as a verbal dispute. He also damaged two cellphones and destroyed a flat-screen TV before fleeing, she further alleged.

Dec. 26

Arrest: Curtis Elder Jr., 59, of Roosevelt Drive, Liberty, was taken into custody after police had pulled him over near Hadley Avenue. Elder was wanted on Warren charges of failure to appear in court.

Drugs: Officers answered a shoplifting call at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where they charged 26-year-old Shawna M. Cottrell of Third Street, Sharon, Pa., with possession of drug-abuse instruments and 39-year-old Aaron M. Shoaf of Vance Road, New Castle, Pa., with possession of drug paraphernalia. A hypodermic needle and a suspected crack-cocaine pipe in a cigarette pack were found, police alleged. Cottrell also was wanted on a Bazetta Township warrant.

Assault: A Northview Boulevard woman alleged her intoxicated boyfriend had punched her face, grabbed her neck, tried to break her arm and pushed her down a flight of steps during an argument about their relationship.

Weapon/drugs: Police near Gypsy Lane pulled over and charged 36-year-old Tyrone W. Traylor of Plum Street, Youngstown, with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and drug abuse. Found were 4 grams of suspected marijuana and a loaded 9 mm firearm, a report stated.

Dec. 28

Aggravated menacing: A Struthers woman alleged that during an argument at her boyfriend’s Gypsy Lane apartment, he shoved her out the door, then waved a gun around and threatened to kill the accuser and her family if she contacted police.

GIRARD

Dec. 25

Arrest: While responding to a disturbance in the 200 block of South Davis Street, officers took into custody Gail M. Miconi, 59, of South Davis, Girard, who was wanted on a city warrant charging her with failure to appear in court.

Menacing: A man reported that as he walked on East Main Street, another man pulled up in a vehicle and threatened to shoot him. The man in the car later apologized, however, stating it was a misunderstanding.

Dec. 26

Fraud: A Verona Avenue man who had listed a vehicle on Craigslist reported a man claiming to be from Alabama instructed him to send $690 via a money transfer to a third person. After having done so, he had no more contact with the original interested party, a report said.

Theft: An East Second Street woman discovered Christmas lights missing from her front yard.

Fraud: An Olive Street woman learned that someone without permission had used her debit-card information to make several charges at gas stations in Indiana. The loss came to about $227.

Menacing: An Elruth Court woman said her former boyfriend had repeatedly threatened her during an ongoing argument.

Dec. 28

Aggravated menacing: An employee with United Parcel Service, 700 Trumbull Ave., told police an irate customer threatened her regarding the manner in which a package had been handled and delivered. The customer also taped three derogatory notes to a door, a report showed.

Theft: An Elruth Court man reported a woman borrowed but failed to return his debit card.

Arrest: Niles police handed 39-year-old Chad E. Holbrook to Girard authorities. The Niles man was accused of failing to appear in court on misdemeanor charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

Fraud: An East Broadway Avenue woman found three unauthorized charges to her credit card totaling $627.
