Steven J. Monolakis, 38, of Meacham Drive in Cortland, began serving 90 days in the Trumbull County jail Monday on a probation violating relating to a 2014 hit-and-run accident on state Route 46 in Mecca Township.

Court officials said they cannot reveal what type of probation violation he committed.

Monolakis, who has a record of 28 criminal charges filed against him in Central District Court in Cortland dating back to 1995, served about 60 days in the jail beginning in March for a probation violation relating to the same case, according to court records.

In September 2014, he pleaded no contest to leaving the scene of an accident and was sentenced to 180 days in jail, 170 days suspended, in the hit-and-run. His driver’s license was suspended for six months, and he was placed on probation for one year and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.

Hit-and-run was one of several charges filed against Monolakis after his vehicle struck another vehicle turning in front of him at 2:13 a.m. April 18, 2014. Monolakis then drove home. Police towed Monolakis’ vehicle from his driveway a short time later. It had unopened beer bottles and a loaded gun inside. No one answered the door at Monolakis’ house, but Monolakis called police later and admitted being involved in the accident, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.
