Man accused of assaulting pizza shop co-worker

BOARDMAN

A Youngstown man faces a second-degree felony assault charge after he purportedly attacked a co-worker, breaking the victim's tooth.

David Simmers, 42, was picked up at his Hartford Avenue home by members of a U.S. Marshals Task Force Tuesday. He is in the Mahoning County jail and is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here Jan. 5.

The felonious assault charge stems from an incident Monday at Papa John's Pizza at 1307 Boardman-Poland Road.

The victim reported to police that Simmers, a co-worker, confronted him about being late for work.

Simmers allegedly threw a ball of pizza dough at the victim, punched him in the face, and caused him to fall by body-slamming him. The purported attack caused the victim's front tooth to break.
