DA: Pa. dad endangered infant by passing out in car from drugs
BEDFORD, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a Pennsylvania man endangered his 8-month-old child by passing out from drugs while the child and an older sibling were in a parked car with him.
Richard Matney, 28, of Robertsdale, was in the car with the infant and a 5-year-old child while their mother went into a Wal-Mart on Saturday.
Police say the 5-year-old wandered through the parking lot and the store looking for help after Matney passed out from taking prescription pills. A store employee found the child and police were called.
Matney faces a preliminary hearing Jan. 6 on charges including endangering the welfare of children. Matney was charged Tuesday and remained in the Bedford County jail today.
County welfare caseworkers have removed the children from the home.
