Boardman police continue to investigate severed ear episode

BOARDMAN

Township police are investigating an attempted theft from auto that left one victim with a severed ear.

Police responded to the 110 block of Lemans Drive early Sunday in reference to a possible theft-from-auto, according to a police report, where they met two male victims, one of whom told them his right ear had just been bitten in an altercation.

Police "observed a portion of the top of his right ear severed and bleeding."

The men reported that the altercation occurred after they observed a male suspect going through one of their vehicles in the parking lot.

The two went outside to confront the suspect; one of them put the man in a headlock while the other ran inside to get a hammer to use as a "self-defense weapon," they reported.

Meanwhile, the suspect reportedly bit the ear of the victim who had him in a headlock, then broke free and escaped.

The injured victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
