Jazz & Dessert event seeks bakers

AUSTINTOWN

Austintown Bands will present Jazz & Dessert, which will combine a concert and sweets, on Jan. 30 in the Austintown Middle School cafetorium. It’s a format that has been successful around the country but is new to Austintown schools.

The AMS Jazz Band, under the direction of Marc Pupino, and Fitch Jazz 1, under the direction of Wes O’Connor, will be joined by the Fitch Alumni Jazz Band at the event, which will run from 6 to 9 p.m.

Professional and amateur bakers are invited to compete in the dessert contest. Entry fee is $5, which includes a complimentary card for 10 dessert samples. Each baker must bring 120 sample pieces of their entry along with a completed version of that same product (a small cake, a dozen cookies, six cupcakes) packaged for a silent auction.

The sampler cards will be sold for $5 and are good for 10 samples. Beverages will be sold. Each sampler card-holder will receive a ticket to vote for Best in Show. Judges also will award a Best Display trophy.

For information, call Austintown Band Parents president Brad Gessner at 330-398-0681.
