Volunteers needed at Warner Brothers

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The Warner Cascade Theatre Museum is having a meeting for volunteers at noon Monday at The Confluence, 214 E. Washington St. The organization is looking for volunteer managers, docents and volunteers to help with the exhibits, gift shop, carpentry and various operational tasks. Participants interested in becoming a volunteer should contact the group before the meeting. The museum is a nonprofit organization and will open Wednesday. The Warner Brothers opened their first theater, The Cascade, Feb. 2, 1907, at 15 S. Mill St. The museum is being developed at the Cascade’s original location.

Baby found in car of suspects in assault

YOUNGSTOWN

Three suspects were charged after a traffic stop early Christmas morning. Officers were dispatched to East Avondale Avenue toward Gibson Street in response to a report of a dark-colored car chasing and shooting at another vehicle.

There were five occupants in the dark-colored car, including an 18-month old baby, who was later taken into custody of Mahoning County Children’s Services. Officer Mohammad Awad observed a handgun on the floorboard of the car beneath the baby’s car seat. Three of the occupants were questioned separately, and Vashuad May, 13, of East Auburndale Avenue, and Anthony Stigal, 19, of East Florida Avenue, were charged with felonious assault, and Jalisha Wylie, 18, of Crumlin Avenue Girard, mother of the baby, was charged with child endangerment.

Wylie and Stigal were transported to the Mahoning County jail and May was transported to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.

Park reservations

Boardman

Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, is taking reservations for 2016. Also,

reservations for 2017 will be open for availability online beginning Jan. 1 at www.boardmanpark.com or Jan. 4 through the park office by calling 330-726-8105 or visiting the Georgeanna Parker Activity Center. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For information about the facilities, programs or events, visit www.boardmanpark.com. There will not be an increase in reservation fees. Discounted rates will still be available for Boardman residents. Facilities are available for rent year-round. Visitors may provide their own food or bring a caterer.

YSU power outages

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University has scheduled two planned campuswide power outages to allow for the replacement of aged electrical switching equipment at the university’s main substation. The outages will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Jan. 3. The university will be closed for business both days. New switch gear will arrive and be set this week and the outages will allow all the high-voltage connections to occur.

Three Kings festival planned next Sat.

YOUNGSTOWN

Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana, 3660 Shirley Road, is hosting its annual Three Kings Day celebration from noon to 3 p.m. next Saturday.
