Austintown house fire displaces family of 8

AUSTINTOWN

Eight family members escaped a house fire on Lake Road on Christmas Eve.

Homeowners Bob and Debbie Hyziak said a family member saw smoke in the hallway and traced it back to a bedroom.

After trying to put the fire out themselves, the family got everyone out of the house safely and Austintown and Canfield Fire departments put out the fire.

Austintown Fire Chief Andy Frost said it took the crew only 10 to 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

“Our guys made a real good stop on the fire,” Frost said. “Everything went just right, and the [Hyziaks] did everything right.”

The family was able to stay with another family in the area until insurance matters were handled for the future of the house.

No cause has been determined, but Frost said he suspects it was accidental.
