v Real person: “Joy” is based on the a real person: Joy Mangano. An inventor and entrepreneur known for inventions such as the self-wringing Miracle Mop and Huggable Hangers, Mangano appears regularly on shopping channel HSN. She holds more than 100 patents for her inventions.

v Collaboration: It’s the fourth collaboration between Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, who previously starred together in “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012), “American Hustle” (2013) and “Serena” (2014).

v What a year: Joy Mangano first developed the Miracle Mop in 1990, the same year actress Jennifer Lawrence was born.

v Nominations: Under Russell’s direction, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence have all been nominated for Academy Awards. Lawrence won for “Silver Linings Playbook.”

v Rating: It’s the first film produced by Annapurna Pictures to receive a PG-13 rating.

Hoyt seeks art for juried show

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts is accepting entries for its annual regional juried art competition, which will be March 15-May 6.

Entries will be accepted at hoytartcenter.org, by mail (124 E. Leasure Ave., New Castle, PA 16101) and by email (hoytexhibits@hoytartcenter.org) through Jan. 30. More than $1,000 in prizes will be awarded.

Artists must be at least 18 years of age and live within a 150-mile radius of New Castle. Entries must be original, completed within the past three years and not previously displayed at the Hoyt. The entry fee is $25 for up to two entries ($20 for members). Each additional entry is $5.

Janice Driesbach, chief curator of the Akron Art Museum, will serve as juror. Prior to her appointment at Akron, Driesbach served as director of the Dayton Art Institute.

‘If/Then’ bus trip

YOUNGSTOWN

The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is offering a bus trip to Cleveland to see the musical “If/Then” on Feb. 14. Price is $85 ($75 for members) and includes ticket and transportation (dinner is on your own).

The bus will leave the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane, at 11 a.m. and return at 7:30 p.m.
