Loew to address media on boxer's death
YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown boxing trainer and promoter Jack Loew plans to meet with reporters today following the death of boxer Hamzah Ajahmi on Tuesday.
Ajahmi, a Detroit fighter, made his professional debut Saturday night during a boxing show promoted by Loew at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orhtodox Banquet Center. He was knocked down several times during the four-round fight against Anthony Taylor of Warren and collapsed at the bell after the final round of the 114-pound bout.
Paramedics took Ajahmi from the ring and to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he reportedly underwent emergency brain surgery late Saturday.
Loew's news conference is set for 3 p.m. at his Southside Boxing Club, 1714 Market St., in Youngstown.
