Dad admits he shook baby, now on life support, cops say
YOUNGSTOWN
A South Garland Avenue man is in the Mahoning County jail on $35,000 bond after his arraignment Wednesday in municipal court on charges that he inflicted injuries on a 2-month-old boy so severe the child is now on life support.
John Albino Serrano, 31, was arraigned before Magistrate Anthony Sertick on a charge of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Court records show the charge was filed Monday, and Albino Serrano was booked into the jail the same day.
Court records show the victim, Albino Serrano’s infant son, is on life support at the main campus of Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron.
Police were called to ACH Mahoning Valley in Boardman about 11 a.m. Dec. 15. Reports said hospital staff said the baby had brain injuries and was undergoing treatment there before he was flown by helicopter to Akron.
Court records show Albino Serrano later admitted to police he shook the baby.
