HOWLAND

A Warren man faces charges after being accused of leading Howland police on a chase that resulted in a traffic accident and ended with a leap through a restaurant window.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, a township police officer says he jumped in his cruiser and began a pursuit after he spotted a sport utility vehicle doing doughnuts in the parking lot of the Kohl’s parking lot on state Route 46 Monday morning.

Police say the SUV drove away over an embankment until it crashed into another SUV on Mines Road. The suspect, identified as Anthony McClintock, 28, jumped out of the vehicle and ran away, running through the Wendy’s restaurant and then into the Red Lobster restaurant. Officers say McClintock jumped through a plate-glass window of the Red Lobster.

Police Chief Paul Monroe says that’s where he was waiting for the suspect and tackled him to the ground. McClintock faces numerous charges, include failing to comply with a police order and resisting arrest.

Two people in the SUV that was struck by the fleeing suspect were injured and taken to the hospital. Their names and conditions have not been released, the TV station said.
