Teen is charged with inducing panic

BOARDMAN

Township police Friday arrested a suspect who they say is responsible for social-media threats that in April led to stepped-up security at Boardman High School.

Elias Khoury, 17, of Caribou Drive, is charged with misdemeanor inducing panic.

The charge relates to an incident in which Khoury purportedly made threatening comments – such as stating that explosive devices would be placed on vehicles at the school – to several students on Twitter.

“As a result of the threats posted by Khoury, the students, staff and administration at the Boardman High School suffered serious public inconvenience and alarm. The threats made by Khoury caused a major disruption to the school day, including approximately 250-300 students who either did not attend school, or were picked up by parents by the end of the school day,” a police report from Friday stated.

Khoury’s case will be handled in Mahoning County Juvenile Court.

Police found suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia on a woman during a traffic stop Saturday night.

Nicole Walton, 38, of Youngstown, was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a drug-abuse instrument and obstructing official business.

Reports said Walton was the driver of a car police pulled over about 9:35 p.m. at Cleveland and Hillman avenues on the South Side for running a stop sign. She told police she did not have her license with her but gave them a Social Security number. Reports said officers asked her if they could search her car, and she said yes.

Police found a needle sticking out of the pocket of her sweatshirt, along with a burnt spoon with suspected heroin residue and suspected heroin inside two pill bottles that were in her car, reports said.
