Judge convicts Toledo man of killing housemate at group home
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A northwestern Ohio man has been convicted of fatally stabbing and beating his housemate at a group home.
A judge in Lucas County on Monday found Lecorius Reynolds guilty of murder in the May 2014 death of 51-year-old Roy Roberts.
The Blade newspaper reports Reynolds initially was found incompetent to stand trial but was later cleared for trial after treatment at a behavioral health center.
His attorney had argued that Reynolds either didn’t know the seriousness of the crime because of mental defect or because he was acting in self-defense.
But the judge said Reynolds can’t escape the responsibility for what he knows is wrong.
Reynolds faces up to life in prison when he’s sentenced Jan. 20.
