“A Saturday Night Live Christmas” (9 p.m., NBC): I don’t care what your momma says, Christmas time is near.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS’ ‘Deadliest Catch’ prepares spinoff

NEW YORK

Makers of the popular Discovery network series “Deadliest Catch” are heading south to a fishing village in Oregon for a spinoff.

The new series, called “Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove,” is set to premiere next fall. It will focus on families involved in the Dungeness crab fishing industry in Newport, Ore., the network said Friday.

The announcement doesn’t mean that the original series, which is set to begin its 12th season in the spring, is winding down, said Joseph Boyle, Discovery’s executive producer for the show.

The industry around Newport was interesting to Discovery because fishermen race to catch as many fish as they can during a season, as opposed to working with a quota, he said

Horn workshop

YOUNGSTOWN

The Dana School of Music’s third annual horn workshop will take place Jan. 10 from noon to 5 p.m. in Bliss Hall Room 2326. The event is geared toward high school and college horn players. Guest clinician is Lowell Greer, recording artist, soloist, natural horn pioneer, and Hultgren Scholar.

The clinic is free to the public and for musicians of all levels. It is particularly helpful for students who will participate in solo ensemble competitions and for those who will be auditioning. Students should bring their own instruments but do not need to bring sheet music.

While reservations are not mandatory, students are encouraged to confirm their attendance by emailing Dr. Stacie Mickens at srmickens@ysu.edu.
