Boardman teen arrested for social-media threats

BOARDMAN — Township police over the weekend arrested a suspect they say is responsible for social-media threats that in April led to stepped-up security at Boardman High School.

Elias Khoury, 17, of Caribou Drive, is charged with misdemeanor inducing panic. He was arrested Friday.

The charge relates to an incident in which Khoury purportedly made threatening comments - such as stating that explosive devices would be placed on vehicles at the school - to several students. The threats were posted on Twitter.

"As a result of the threats posted by Khoury, the students, staff, and administration at the Boardman High School suffered serious public inconvenience and alarm. The threats made by Khoury caused a major disruption to the school day, including approximately 250-300 students who either did not attend school, or were picked up by parents by the end of the school day," a police report from Friday stated.

Khoury's case will be handled in Mahoning County Juvenile Court.
