The city has issued a voluntary water-conservation request beginning at 7 a.m. Dec. 28.

Residents are asked to try to refrain from unnecessary water usage.

The city is repairing a few minor leaks on its main water-transmission line. The project should take eight to nine hours to complete.

Fifteen dogs seized

BOARDMAN

Fifteen small dogs were seized from a Boardman home Friday by the Animal Charity Humane Society because of what it described as a hoarding situation.

A spokesman for the humane society said the animals had feces matted into their fur, and their paws were stained with urine, but the dogs appeared to be well fed.

The humane society is reviewing evidence to determine if charges will be filed against the dogs’ owner, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner. The dogs will not be available for adoption until a course of action has been determined.

Clergy breakfast to address racism

A clergy breakfast is planned from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Jan. 14 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 420 Clearmount Drive, by ACTION. The Rev. Dave Kamphuis is host pastor.

Gift cards given out at OVI checkpoint

The Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in collaboration with the Youngstown Police Department, conducted a sobriety checkpoint Friday on Belmont Avenue near Granada Avenue through which 120 vehicles passed.

According to the OSHP, five vehicles were directed into a diversion area for further investigation. The checkpoint and saturation patrol resulted in three arrests on charges of operating a vehicle impaired, four summonses for driving under suspension, four citations for adult restraint, two felony arrests on drug-abuse charges, one arrest on a felony warrant and five summonses for misdemeanor drug abuse.

Also, YPD officers passed out three $50 gift cards to needy families that came through the checkpoint.
