Meat shoots

The Mahoning Sportsmen’s Association, 1.5 miles south of U.S. Route 224 at State Line Marker (Main Street) in Hillsville, Pa., will have meat shoots at 7 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month through March.

License plate fund grant program

COLUMBUS

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications for the Ohio Geology License Plate Fund grant program that helps support graduate students conducting geologic research in the state.

The program was established in 2012 and is funded through renewals of the Ohio Rocks! license plates offered by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

The revenue generated is used to promote earth science education and outreach throughout the state.

Beginning in spring 2016, the ODNR Division of Geological Survey will award two $1,200 grants to earth science students at Ohio colleges and universities for graduate-level research on Ohio’s geology.

Ohio hunters encouraged to attend deer-hunting summits

Ohio hunters and others interested in the state’s white-tailed deer-management programs have the opportunity to provide feedback about hunting regulations and season structures in central Ohio on Jan. 23 and in Northeast Ohio on Jan. 30, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Hunters who wish to attend the summit should preregister by Jan. 22. Summits will take place at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on both days at the following locations:

Jan. 23: Wildlife District One Headquarters, 1500 Dublin Road, Columbus, 43215. Call 614-644-3925 and select option 4 to preregister.

Jan. 30: Wildlife District Three Headquarters, 912 Portage Lakes Drive, Akron, 44319. Call 330-644-2293 to preregister.
