Northeast Ohio police shoot and kill man with machete

KENT, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say police in the northeast Ohio city of Kent have fatally shot a man who confronted officers with a machete.

The man killed has been identified as 25-year-old Douglas Yon. Yon died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 4 a.m. today outside a home.

Kent Police Chief Michelle Lee said at a news conference today that she doesn’t know how many officers fired their weapons or how many rounds were fired. Lee says four officers responded to a 911 call from someone inside the home. Lee says people inside the home were told to leave for their safety after reporting that Yon might run at police.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting with help from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
