Police say a man refused medical attention Tuesday after he was beaten with his own cane at a Market Street fast-food restaurant until the cane broke.

Reports said police were called about 1:50 p.m. on a report of a disgruntled employee who had come back to the restaurant after she had been fired.

When they arrived, witnesses said the suspect was in the restaurant arguing with another woman and tried to throw a cup of hot coffee on the woman.

The man knocked the cup of coffee out of the suspect’s hand, and she in turn grabbed the man’s cane and started hitting him with it, reports said.

Reports said the suspect continued to beat the man with the cane as he was on the floor until it broke. After the cane broke, she spit on the man, reports said.

At one point she also had punched the man in the nose, reports said, and she also threw juice on the woman she was arguing with before the suspect left the store.

The man refused any medical attention, reports said.

The suspect left the restaurant before police arrived.
