The Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court has received a $60,000, one-year Violence Against Women Act grant from the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Service for the hiring of a full-time licensed social worker.

Judge Beth A. Smith said she hopes to hire someone into the $43,680-a-year post within the next two weeks.

The social worker will connect domestic-violence victims with programs that can provide safety plans, safe housing, counseling, job training and support groups.

Exchange students need host families

YOUNGSTOWN

World Heritage Student Exchange Program is seeking local host families for high-school boys and girls from more than 40 countries worldwide.

Host families provide room, board and guidance for the students. Couples, single parents, and families with or without children in the home are encouraged to apply.

The program also is looking for area representatives to recruit and screen both potential host families and potential American students interested in studying abroad.

Representatives also are responsible for supervising the exchange students living in their community, organizing activities with the students throughout the year and providing support to host families, students and schools.

Area representatives receive a stipend for each student placed and supervised. To learn more, contact Kristi Habila at 330-858-6517, kristi@world-heritage.org, or visit the website at www.world-heritage.org.
