URGENT: Magistrate orders school teacher appointed to Academic Distress Commission

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County Common Pleas Court magistrate has ordered the Youngstown school board president to appoint a Youngstown city schools teacher to the Youngstown Academic Distress Commission within 48 hours.

Magistrate Daniel Dascenzo also forbade board President Brenda Kimble from appointing Carol Staten, or any other nonteacher, to the commission.

In doing so, the magistrate granted the Youngstown Education Association's motion for a preliminary injunction and writ of mandamus in the union's lawsuit against the school board.
