December warm spell continues in Valley

VIENNA

A record high temperature of 63 degrees was set at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport at 2:45 p.m. Sunday. That broke the old record of 60 degrees set in 1991.

This is the second day in a row a heat record for December was shattered in the Mahoning Valley.

The average monthly temperature for this December in Greater Youngstown is 41.3 degrees as of Sunday morning. For the full month of December, the warmest December in history was 1982 with an average temperature of 40.3 degrees.

Above-average temperatures are expected over the next few days.

2 hurt in I-80 crash

AUSTINTOWN

Two people were hospitalized with minor injuries when their vehicle overturned about 3:10 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 80 just west of state Route 46.

The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, WFMJ TV News, reported that the driver of the eastbound vehicle, Damita Waller of Boardman, 33, fell asleep at the wheel causing the crash near the state Route 46 overpass in Austintown. She was cited for failure to control by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Waller and her passenger, John Baingull of Maple Heights, were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment. Portions of the highway were closed for a short period.

Website launched

ELLWOOD CITY, PA.

The Ellwood City Borough launched a new mobile-friendly website that will provide residents with a more informative and engaging resource and serve as a one-stop shop for all borough information. The new site is www.ellwoodcityborough.com.

The website includes council, borough management, police, fire and electric departments. In addition, local ordinances, council meeting minutes and frequently asked questions will be available. It also showcases the city’s amenities.

Movie-magic program

YOUNGSTOWN

Liz Rubino Studios, housed in the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, will present Movie Magic, a program for children age 10 and older, from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. Feb. 1 to 4.

In four days, participants will write and develop a short movie scene and become the cast of the movie they write.

The cost is $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers.

Clowning, juggling workshop planned

YOUNGSTOWN

Liz Rubino Studios at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, is offering a one-day workshop, Make ’Em Laugh! Clowning & Juggling, from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 7.

Participants will work with specialty instructor Jeff Hafner on the art of clowning. This class will lay the foundation for young performers to learn the inner-workings of comedy as they explore the rule of three, pecking order and slapstick in the context of created scenes and comic bits.

Participants also will learn three-ball juggling. Come dressed to move and bring objects from home to juggle.

The cost is $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers.
