Youngers mark 50 years of marriage

A series of celebrations with friends and family marked the 50th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Younger of New Middletown.

Their two daughters and four of their grandchildren hosted a dinner at Roberto’s Restaurant in Youngstown. Dolly McKnight welcomed the couple into her home for a celebration with friends and neighbors. Their son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren welcomed the Youngers for a vacation at Amelia Island, Fla., in July.

Their children are Elizabeth (Curtis) Weingart and Susan (Christopher) Scenna, all of Petersburg, Ohio, and Richard L. (Nicole) Younger of Alpharetta, Ga. Seven grandchildren complete the family.

The former Virginia Marsco married Mr. Younger on May 8, 1965, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Youngstown.

The couple are members of Petersburg Presbyterian Church.

Together, they owned and operated a Radio Shack franchise in Columbiana from 1980 to 2008, and were active in the Columbiana Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Younger retired from Youngstown State University as a secretary in 2003. She participates in the Book in Hand Club, Grow With Us Garden Club and Springfield Township Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Younger was a cost accountant at LTV Steel in Youngstown and retired in 1978. He is a charter member of the Springfield Township Optimist Club. He served in the U.S. Army.
