Austintown

Trainer Jeff Radosevich hit a personal milestone on Saturday by saddling his 2,000th career winner.

Radosevich’s She’s Slammed captured the second race at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course. She’s Slammed took over the lead in mid-stretch and gradually pulled clear to win the $5,000 claiming event by more than three lengths.

The Illinois bred three-year-old daughter of Tale of Ekati returned $5.20 to her backers as the betting favorite.

“I have been blessed with good horses, great owners, a patient and supporting family, and a dedicated staff,” Radosevich said. “I could not have achieved any of this without them and they all share in my accomplishments.”

Holm resigned to wait for Rousey rematch

LAS VEGAS

Holly Holm would rather get back in the cage while Ronda Rousey is recovering from their first fight.

The new UFC champion reluctantly realizes she might have to wait for their rematch.

Holm acknowledged Saturday that she might be facing a lengthy layoff before her first defense of the bantamweight belt she took from Rousey in spectacular fashion last month.

Rousey will need at least six months of recovery from Holm’s head strikes before she is ready to fight again. UFC President Dana White said this week that the rematch will be Holm’s next fight, likely at UFC 200 in Las Vegas on July 9.

“Eight months is a long time between fights, and I don’t want to wait that long,” Holm said before watching UFC 194 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. “But if that’s what it is, I’ll do it and I’ll be ready.”

The 34-year-old Holm (10-0) would prefer to take another fight in the spring, and top bantamweight contender Miesha Tate has campaigned aggressively for a title shot.

Stanford, Clemson set to play for NCAA title

KANSAS CITY, Mo.

After 110 tough minutes in the semifinals, Stanford and Clemson advanced after penalty kick shootouts to the national championship of the College Cup today.

The previous national championship Clemson (17-2-4) won was in 1987. The first one came in 1984.

Stanford (17-2-3) has never won a soccer national championship, but coach Jeremy Gunn has. He coached the Fort Lewis College squad from 1999 to 2006, advancing to the NCAA Division II championship three times, taking the title in 2005.

In its semifinal, Clemson was led by goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell, who made eight saves in regulation and overtime and allowed Syracuse to only score on one of four penalty kicks. Tarbell had 75 saves and eight shutouts.

Stanford is led by Jordan Morris, the first college player to be called up to the U.S. men’s national team since 1999. Morris had three shots in the semifinal against Akron. His penalty kick was blocked.
