POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty, Hubbard, the city of Canfield and Austintown:

GIRARD

Dec. 4

Theft by deception: A Forsythe Avenue couple reported that a woman tricked them into giving her $100 after she claimed their son was in jail and she needed the money to get him out.

Theft: A Lincoln Avenue man noticed a $630 wood chipper missing from his yard.

Criminal mischief: The owner of a business in the 30 block of South State Street saw that someone had cut part of a chain near the back patio, then added a lock to make the area inaccessible.

Theft: A man discovered eight over-the-counter prescriptions missing from his vehicle while at a business in the 900 block of North State Street.

Dec. 5

Theft: Someone in the 600 block of East Prospect Street removed $9 in loose change from a vehicle.

Theft: A checkbook and numerous compact discs were taken from a car in the 600 block of East Broadway Avenue.

Dec. 6

Criminal mischief: A motorist driving near Church Hill Road and Ward Avenue told officers an unidentified object struck his vehicle’s rear passenger-side window.

Theft: A Patricia Drive man reported $1,200 worth of wrenches and other tools was stolen from a storage locker.

Dec. 7

Theft: Someone took $5 in change from a vehicle in the 200 block of Ohio Avenue.

Criminal mischief: A Church Hill Road woman alleged her former boyfriend had used a key to scratch her car’s passenger side and smash its rear taillight. Damage was estimated at $2,000.

LIBERTY

Dec. 3

Theft: An inventory at Conroy’s Express, 4446 Logan Way, reportedly revealed that 50 Ohio Lottery scratch-off tickets were missing.

Counterfeit: A man and a woman reportedly cashed two checks totaling about $1,314 at Check Into Cash in the Liberty Plaza, both of which were fraudulent.

Theft: A worker with Rental Corral, 1530 Gypsy Lane, told officers a Youngstown man, 46, rented but failed to return a $2,736 item.

Theft: David A. Luntz, 61, of Academy Drive, Youngstown, was charged with stealing three bottles of salad dressing from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

Dec. 4

Theft: A couple reported someone took their iPhone while they shopped at a Belmont Avenue grocery store.

Dec. 5

Arrest: Police responded to a vehicular accident in the 1200 block of East Liberty Street, where they charged Carl D. Dale of Beechwood Drive, Boardman, with operating a vehicle impaired. The 26-year-old Dale’s blood-alcohol count was 0.192, more than twice Ohio’s 0.08 legal limit, a report showed.

Menacing: An employee with a Belmont Avenue fast-food restaurant alleged an 18-year-old township man had made threats and fighting gestures toward him.

Dec. 7

Arrest: Police were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to book 29-year-old William N. Moore of Ridge Avenue, Youngstown, on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft: A Youngstown man reported his wallet missing while visiting a family member in the 100 block of Colonial Drive.

Arrest: A vehicle check near Colonial Drive resulted in 43-year-old Gregory L. Davenport’s arrest. Davenport, of Northview Boulevard, Liberty, was accused of failing to appear in court.

Burglary: To a residence in the 3300 block of Anderson-Morris Road. Stolen was $1,200 worth of jewelry, clothing and shoes.

HUBBARD

Dec. 3

Arrest: Sarah R. Zagorski, 30, of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, was taken into custody after having been pulled over on North Main Street. She was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Assault: A Brookfield woman reported her 12-year-old daughter was hit in the face while at a residence in the 100 block of Corll Street. The person who purportedly struck the girl apologized, and no charges were filed.

Citation: Police issued a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 48-year-old Michael P. Lynch of Jones Street, Hubbard, after saying they had received several complaints about excess junk in his yard. A vehicle and two boats with no licenses were in Lynch’s backyard; also found was a rusted gas tank and other pieces of metal in the driveway and yard, a report said.

Dec. 6

Arrest: Joshua A. McConnell, 30, of Stewart Avenue, Hubbard, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after authorities had pulled him over and said his blood-alcohol count was 0.172.

Criminal damaging: A Saul Drive woman noticed someone had intentionally cut the tires on her 12-year-old son’s bicycle when the boy was on School Street.

Citation: Acting on a complaint, officers handed a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 68-year-old Gerald K. Rush of Elmwood Drive, Hubbard, after saying he had in his yard six tractors and four push mowers, all of which appeared to be inoperable, along with other junk items.

CANFIELD

Dec. 3

Identity fraud: A report of identity fraud was made with police at a home in the 100 block of Timber Run Court.

AUSTINTOWN

Dec. 5

Felonious assault: A crowbar was used to assault a victim at a home in the 2000 block of Amberly Street.

Vehicle theft: A 1999 Kenworth tow truck was stolen from DJ Auto Sales, 3733 Mahoning Ave.

Menacing by stalking: A male suspect was making unwanted contact and sending notes at Farmers Insurance, 5437 Mahoning Ave.

Dec. 6

Warrant: Police arrested Kevin Rupert, 23, of Turner Road on a warrant for passing bad checks.

Criminal damaging: A window to a vehicle was broken out in the parking lot of Club Gossip,1743 S. Raccoon Road.

Warrant: Police arrested Joshua Kelly, 29, of Oron Drive, arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a traffic charge and suspended license.

Breaking and entering: Someone crashed out the front door and took the register at Walrus Subs, 1305 S. Raccoon Road.

Disturbance: A family feud erupted at a home in the 200 block of South Main Street.

Criminal trespassing: Police arrested Lisa Lordi-Zaku,46, of Sugar Cane Drive, Boardman, on charges of criminal trespassing at a home in the 10 block of Benton Avenue, and possession of marijuana.

Burglary: There was no sign of forced entry for a burglary at an apartment in the 900 block of Compass West.
