Suspected gas leak closes McDonald school

McDONALD — The students at Roosevelt Elementary School were evacuated from the building just as school started for the day this morning after a natural-gas leak was detected.

The students were evacuated to the nearby high school, and parents were contacted to pick up the students, said Superintendent Robert Rostan.

By 11:30 a.m., most of the 400 students had been taken home.

The gas was turned off shortly after the problem was detected, and repairs were being made to a broken gas meter.

The leak did not affect students at the high school. Classes at Roosevelt will resume Monday, the superintendent said.
