In an effort to reinforce the Ancient Greek material taught in class, seventh-grade teachers Carlo Cordon and Tom Basista created the Glenwood Middle School Olympic Games. This is the sixth year for the event.
Sparta, represented by seventh-grade white, and Athens, represented by seventh-grade maroon, competed head-to-head in 15 different events. This was the closest competition in Olympic history with Athens taking the lead in seven events and Sparta pulling ahead with a win in eight different events.
“The Athenians duked it out, but the brave Spartans of Sparta pulled it out in the end,” said event leader Cordon.
The following were the Olympic champions in their respective fields: Kalya Golden, girls chariot racing; Patrick Ring, boys chariot racing; Emily Olexa, girls gallop sprint; Austin Price, boys gallop sprint; Kara Eliser, girls gallop marathon; Davon Johnson, boys gallop marathon; Emma Tokarsky, girls sprint foot race; Aiden Slocum, boys sprint foot race; Reagan Burkey, girls foot race marathon; CJ Cordon, boys foot race marathon; Lexis Petrich, girls free throws; Spencer Smith, boys free throws; Abby Wagner, girls bean bag toss; Liam Holt, boys bean bag toss and Seaierra Brady and Asia Mahon co-champions in the deciding Hula hoop event.
