One dead following crash this morning in Mercer County
MERCER, Pa.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred about 9:40 a.m. today in Findley Township in Mercer County, Pa.
Passenger Nicholas Furman, 21, of Slippery Rock, Pa. was killed. He had been wearing a seat belt, but his air bag was not deployed, according to state police. The driver, Fallon Dovidio, 20, of Mercer Pa., was transported to the hospital with a severe head injury. Troopers say Dovidio’s air bag was deployed, though they do not know if she was wearing a seat belt. An infant, who was in a car seat, was also taken to the hospital.
The car slid about 165 feet and then crashed into an embankment after the driver lost control on state Route 258. The car then collided with a cluster of trees before coming to rest on its side, according to state police. The vehicle sustained “severe damage,” the agency said.
The East End Volunteer Fire Department, the Allegheny Sheriff’s Department and the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department also responded.
