NEW CASTLE, PA.
Melanie Atmore will host a book-signing event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Shenango High School, 2550 Ellwood Road. The author and Aliquippa, Pa. resident will sign copies of her book, “From a Butterfly’s Eye.” The work imagines spending the day with a butterfly and seeing the world from its eyes.
Holiday Concert of Giving is Sunday
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band and Stambaugh Chorus will host its fifth annual Holiday Concert of Giving at 4 p.m. Sunday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.
Admission is a cash donation that will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank in its mission to feed hungry families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Make an additional donation in the upper lobby and earn a chance to conduct “Sleigh Ride” on stage with the band.
For every $1 given at the concert, the Second Harvest can distribute $11 worth of food to families. Since its inception, the concert has raised over $13,000 for the food bank.
Sign a giant Christmas card for soldiers
AMVETS Post 44 has organized an Operation Christmas Card program, and they are inviting members of the public to sign a 8-by-5-foot Christmas card that will be sent to service men and women away from home this holiday season.
A kick-off event is planned from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday behind Quaker Steak and Lube at the Shops At Boardman Park on Boardman-Poland Road. A special taping will begin at 3:30 p.m., where participants can share happy holiday messages; the video will be sent through social media to armed forces around the world.
Additional signing events will be offered from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at AT&T, 650 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman; 7 a.m. to noon at Struthers Middle School, 800 5th St., and 1 to 4 p.m. at the VA Outpatient Clinic, 2031 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, both on Thursday.
