Salem man dies after being struck in middle of Route 45
COLUMBIANA
The Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a Salem man who was killed when he was walking in the middle of the eastbound lane of state Route 45 Tuesday night. He was hit by a sport utility vehicle also traveling in the eastbound lane.
Edwin L. George, 77, of Salem, was transported from the scene by EMT Ambulance Co. to Salem Regional Medical Center where he died of his injuries. Neither speed nor alcohol were a factor in the crash, which occurred at 9:27 p.m. and remains under investigation by the state patrol.
Neither the driver of the SUV, Thomas F. Thayer, 67, of Lisbon, nor his wife, Mary, were injured. Both were wearing seat belts.
