Mom and kids escape injury in Boardman house fire
BOARDMAN
A mother and her two children escaped without injury from their home in the 400 block of Mathews Road when a fire ignited in a front room of the two-story wood frame structure at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday.
Fire damaged was contained to the room in which the blaze started, but the rest of the home sustained smoke and heat damage, said Brian Barber, assistant chief of the Boardman Township Fire Department.
The cause of the fire and the estimate of damage will not be determined until the investigation is completed. Police blocked traffic on Mathews for a period of time for hoses could be placed across the road to a water source. The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the family, officials said.
