Lowellville council approves temporary 2016 budget
Staff report
LOWELLVILLE
Council approved a $400,000 temporary budget for 2016.
Additionally, council at a regular meeting Wednesday authorized the village administrator to submit a change order because construction costs for repairs to Walnut, McGill and Jackson streets ended up being $21,215 less than what was previously approved. The projected construction cost was $377,612, but the actual construction cost was $356,397. The project’s total cost is $402,143.
In other business, council reviewed the issue of trees near the village’s Elizabeth Street right of way. The trees are in danger of falling onto a resident’s house and garage. Solicitor James E. Lanzo informed council that, while the village can legally remove the trees, they are not obligated to do so. Regardless, Mayor James Iudiciani Sr. said he felt the village should remove the trees as a matter of protecting the village’s citizens. Council moved the issue to the improvements committee for further consideration.
Wednesday’s meeting marked Councilman Paul Meehan’s last meeting with the village, since he did not seek another term. Village officials thanked him for more than a decade of service.
Council will have a reorganizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6.
