Lecture on antique cards at museum

George Johnson, an expert on antique Christmas decorations, will give a lecture on “19th Century Greeting Cards” at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Carriage House building, located behind the Arms Family Museum, at 648 Wick Ave.

Johnson will share items from his own collection to illustrate his presentation. His lecture is part of the Memories of Christmas Past exhibition at the Arms museum. Admission is included with the price of admission.

Johnson is director of gifted services for Southern Local Schools and an adjunct professor of education for Ashland University.

He has been collecting since 1971 and has published four books on antique Christmas decorations.

Memories of Christmas Past runs through Jan. 3. The seven period rooms of the former Arms Family mansion are replete with vintage decorations.
