Arson has been ruled in a blaze about 12:45 a.m. Thursday at an East Side garage and towing yard.
Fire reports said crews were called to 535 N. Garland Ave. and found the roof burning and on the verge of collapse.
Reports said the building’s owner told firefighters he had evicted the previous tenant, a towing company, at the beginning of the month.
Reports said the fire started on the roof, and the cause of the blaze was listed as “intentional.” Damage is listed at $8,000.
Guns, drugs found in South Side house
YOUNGSTOWN
Police found two loaded guns and 2 ounces of suspected heroin inside a South Side home Monday morning.
Officers serving a search warrant at a home in the 700 block of Cambridge Avenue found a loaded Glock 9 mm handgun and an AK-47 assault rifle with a 30-round clip.
Arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of heroin was Carl Moore, 25, of Ravenwood Avenue. He is in the Mahoning County jail. Judge Elizabeth Kobly set his bail Wednesday at $50,000 after his arraignment in municipal court.

The Beaver Township Historical Society is asking community members to submit photographs from Christmases past. Anyone with old holiday photos they would be willing to share with the society should contact Scott Conway at 330-318-0408.

Route 30 closing
KENSINGTON
U.S. Route 30 will be closed to traffic Wednesday, for railroad crossing repairs between Minerva and Kensington in Columbiana County.
Beginning at the intersection of U.S. Route 30 and state Route 183, traffic will be detoured north on Route 183 to state Route 172 east to state Route 9 south back to U.S. Route 30, and reverse. Work is being performed by Norfolk Southern Railroad and is expected to take one week.
Robotics team will have clothing drive
GIRARD
Girard-Liberty Rotary Club, the Girard High School First Robotics Team and the Robocats are sponsoring a winter clothing drive.
Donors can drop off gently worn coats, hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters and sweatshirts from 3 to 5:30 p.m. between now and Tuesday at the high-school office, 1244 Shannon Road. The clothing will go to community members in need.
Painting class
MERCER, PA.
Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road, will host a painting class with artisan Lauren Sheridan from 6 to 8:30 p.m. next Thursday. Participants will paint a 12-by-16-inch canvas with a personalized ornament in a 21/2 hour session.
No art experience is required, and all materials area provided. Guests can bring their own paint brushes if they have them.
Cost is $25. Registration and payment is due by Friday by calling 724-662-2242 and asking for Jacqueline McCullough or Larissa Cassano.
