75-year-old Youngstown man faces charges after arrest in Liberty

LIBERTY — A Youngstown man will be arraigned Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court on several charges, including driving under the influence and failure to yield at an intersection.

Officers responded Wednesday afternoon to a two-vehicle crash on Belmont Avenue. Witnesses told police that Hayward Woods, 75, of Youngstown hit the side of another car while attempting to turn onto Fairlawn Avenue.

According to the police report, Woods smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech and red eyes. Woods could not complete a series of field-sobriety tests, the report states.

The report also states that Woods initially agreed to take a blood-alcohol content test, but then did not follow directions to allow the test to be completed.
