Shop With A Cop planned for today

Trumbull County Deputies Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 137 is hosting its Shop With A Cop program today.

Participants will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Super Kmart, 2100 Niles Cortland Road, and pizza and drinks will be provided to children, their escorts and attending deputies.

Shop With A Cop program provides for children in need throughout Trumbull County while also creating positive relationships with law enforcement.

Participating children are identified by local school districts and deputies who submit names of families that they may encounter while on a call.

Each child is given $100 to spend and deputies assist with shopping.

Canfield City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. today at the Francis J. McLaughlin Municipal Building, 104 Lisbon St.

Police probe burglary

LIBERTY

Police are investigating a burglary reported Monday from an Anderson Morris Road home.

A resident told police about $1,200 in jewelry, clothing and shoes was taken from a bedroom sometime between Saturday and Sunday.

There were no signs of forced entry.

Struthers man charged with illegal conveyance

STRUTHERS

A Struthers man is charged with illegal conveyance of weapons onto the grounds of a detention facility, a third-degree felony, after police arrested him after a traffic stop.

City police stopped Jordan Kelley, 19, at Fifth Street and Maplewood Avenue on an outstanding warrant at 3:33 a.m. Saturday.

According to a police report, while being booked into the city jail, Kelley failed to disclose to officers he had a knife in the waistband of his shorts.

Kelley was then taken to the Mahoning County jail Monday.

Kelley was arraigned Tuesday morning and will face a preliminary hearing Monday in municipal court.

$1 million bond set in endangering case

WARREN

A judge in Warren Municipal Court set bond at $1 million and sent the felony child endangering charge against Arthur Harper to a Trumbull County grand jury Tuesday.

Harper, 43, of High Street Northeast, waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Harper was charged with child endangering after calling 911 Nov. 28, saying his girlfriend’s son, Russell Cottrill, 3, was unresponsive.

Harper and the boy were the only two people home at the time.

Russell died Nov. 30 in a Cleveland hospital from “severe head trauma,” a Warren police detective said.

Russell’s autopsy was performed last week in Cleveland, but the cause and manner of his death have not been released.

Parts stolen from cars

AUSTINTOWN

Parts were stolen from five vehicles on two different car lots on Mahoning Avenue between Friday night and Saturday morning with the use of a saw.

The damaged cars were being repaired and detectives are investigating.

Thefts from vehicles reported in Boardman

BOARDMAN

Township police responded to complaints from Risher Road residents Monday night for a theft-from-vehicle incident in which several suspects were reported to be fleeing the scene.

No arrests were made.

All the vehicles from which property was stolen were unlocked, residents told police.
