New St. Vincent de Paul Society president named

YOUNGSTOWN — David Skowron, president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society Trumbull County Council, will take over for Brian Antal, who resigned from his position as both the Northeast Ohio council president and Mahoning County president.

“I will be the interim president,” Skowron said this afternoon. “It is just one of those positions that you fell into. That you felt led to do. St. Vincent de Paul is a great society.”

Skowron, a volunteer, oversees the Trumbull County Council, which has 10 parishes involved. The council there operates a dining hall and thrift store in Warren.

Antal sent out his resignation letter today. He resigned as a council member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, National Council of the U.S. and as president of the Diocesan Council of Northeast Ohio effective immediately.

He also resigned as the president of the Mahoning County District of St. Vincent de Paul Society effective Dec. 16.

Antal served since 2011 and had a remaining 21 months left in his final term.

“I need to focus my attention on my beautiful family, my health and my career as I have neglected all three for the good of the society during my tenure,” Antal said in a statement.
