Gasoline up 2 cents

YOUNGSTOWN

Northeast Ohio gas prices increased by 2 cents this week, according to AAA East Central’s Fuel Gauge Report.

This week’s northeast Ohio average price of $1.87 per gallon compares with $2.67 during the week of Dec. 9.

In Youngstown, the average price this week was $1.79 per gallon.

Benefit planned

AUSTINTOWN

Paladin Brewing, 6520 Mahoning Ave., will have a benefit to celebrate John Chandler, owner of the brewery, at 4 p.m. Friday.

The benefit will include homemade pirogi from the authors of “Recipes of Youngstown,” a silent auction, bake sale, magician and comedian Eric Thompson and live music from Old Goats The Band starting at 7:30 p.m.

Shortly before the brewery was set to open, Chandler was diagnosed with an aggressive tumor in his sinus cavity. Through surgery, chemotherapy and the support of their family, Chandler and his wife, Abby, opened the brewery in August, and John finished his treatments Oct. 14.

Founder’s Forum

Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center will have a its third-annual Founder’s Forum event at the new center downtown, 125 W. Market St., from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The staff there welcomes guests to learn more about the newly renovated energy incubator. The event will feature networking, a tour of the incubator, an introduction to TBEIC client companies and an overview of the TBEIC Incubation program.

Ryan: Reconsider

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, wrote to chairman and ranking member of the Ohio House Insurance Committee to reconsider its attempts to limit unemployment benefits through Ohio House Bill 394.

Ribbon cutting

HOWLAND

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Mike’s Drive-Thru, 1903 Niles-Cortland Road at noon today.

Mike Cefalo opened the fully renovated full-service drive-thru in October.

Mike’s offers a variety of craft beers, wines and lottery services. Customers can remain in their cars while obtaining their favorite beverages.

Mike’s Drive-Thru is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Japanese economy grows at 1 percent

TOKYO

Japan says its economy grew at an annual 1.0 percent pace in July to September according to revised data that indicate the country dodged a recession.

Earlier estimates had shown growth for the world’s third-largest economy at minus 0.8 percent, the second-straight quarter of contraction. Two consecutive quarters of contraction are considered a technical recession.
