BREAKING NEWS | Judge issues TRO preventing meeting of new city Academic Distress Commission
YOUNGSTOWN — A judge has issued a second temporary restraining order that would prevent the new Youngstown Academic Distress Commission from having its first meeting Wednesday until the commission has a legal five-member panel.
Judge Lou D'Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court issued the restraining order today.
The Youngstown Education Association, the union representing school district teachers, sought the first TRO blocking Carol Staten from taking her seat on the commission.
Judge D’Apolito’s first TRO also prohibits Brenda Kimble, school board president, from appointing anyone to the commission who isn’t a city schools classroom teacher. Kimble appointed Staten, who works in the district as a substitute principal.
A hearing on a preliminary injunction request by the union is set for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 14.
