YSU track teams set records

The Youngstown State men’s and women’s track and field team kicked-off the season with a strong performance as two new school records were set at the YSU Icebreaker on Friday at the WATTS.
Freshman Chad Zallow placed first in the 60-meter hurdles to set a school record of 7.89 seconds. His time broke the mark of 8.13 seconds set by Caleb Lloyd.
Junior Arnaldo Morales also set a new school record in the men’s high jump as he cleared a height of 2.14 meters to place first.
Senior Austin McLean took first in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:01.31 and senior Nina Gambling had two first place finishes in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.62 seconds, and in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.95 seconds.
The Penguins took a 1-2-3 finish in the women’s 60-meter hurdles as sophomore Amber Eles took first with a time of 8.71 seconds, senior Shatasia Walker finished second to post a time of 8.79 seconds, and junior Taylor McDonald was right behind in third with a time of 8.93 seconds.
For the men’s 60-meter dash, sophomore Carl Zallow placed second to post a time of 6.87 seconds. Taylor Thompkins took second in the 60-meter dash for the women with a time of 7.82 seconds.
In the distance events, Melissa Klim took sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:46.86 and Michelle Klim was right behind her to take seventh to post a time of 18:55.52.
In the mile, Jennifer Muhlenkamp came in seventh with a time of 5:32.73. In other running events, Jen Shiley placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.48 seconds, and Suzanna Koziol took sixth in the 800-meter run to post a time of 2:30.88.
Taylor McDonald placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.41 seconds. Other finishes for the men’s running events include, Derek Morrison in the 800-meter run to finish third with a time of 2:00.47.
Carl Zallow placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.96 seconds and Chad Zallow finished third to post a time of 21.98 seconds.
In the throwing events, senior Connor Neu won the weight throw with a toss of 20.67 meters, while Matthew Monore came in fourth with a throw of 15.62 meters.
Ryan Booth took first in the shot put with a toss of 16.62 meters and Jacob Chiclowe finished second with a throw of 15.24 meters. For the women’s throwers, Jayne Corbett took first in the weight throw with a toss of 15.93 meters and won the shot put with a throw of 14.14 meters. Ciera Trybend finished third with a throw of 13.13 meters and Jennifer Neider was fifth with a toss of 12.75 meters in the shot put.
In the jumping events, Ellie Pollock took second with a leap of 5.46 meters in the long jump. Chenera Lacey and Abby Jones tied for second as they cleared a height of 1.65 meters in the high jump.
