Gathering Place event will take place at 11 a.m. Dec. 14 at Lord of Life Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield. The Canfield High School musical group will present a Christmas program, and lunch will be provided by Woodlands. This is a free community outreach social program offered to all senior citizens on the second Monday of each month. A variety of games and activities are offered. Girard Multi-Generational Center is sponsoring a program, “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls” at First Christian Church, 140 E. Broadway Ave., Girard. Classes will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; class dates will be Dec. 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 and 30. This is program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels for older adults. Participants will learn fall prevention strategies along with specific exercises designed to increase strength, endurance, flexibility and balance. The program is appropriate for those concerned about falls, interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength or those who have fallen in the past. The program is free. Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., will offer a one-day art class with a representative from Wonderstruck Art Studio from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday. No experience is necessary. Participants will paint a winter scene on canvas to take home. Cost is $25 and all supplies will be provided. The center will also offer a podiatry services clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 18, by appointment only, with attending doctor Dr. Thomas Pokabla. Take an insurance card, as regular copays will apply. Computer classes also are set to begin on Tuesday, and continue each Tuesday and Thursday through Dec. 22 in the historical McKinley House on Main Street. The 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. classes will begin with basic refresher skills and then focus on specific topics as requested by the students. Cost is $12 for all five classes.
