Ohio State, Notre Dame in Fiesta Bowl

Ohio State won't have a chance to defend its national championship, but the Buckeyes' consolation prize is a Jan. 1 bowl date with Notre Dame.

The Buckeyes (11-1, 7-1 Big Ten Conference) and Irish (10-2, independent) will meet at 1 p.m. on New Year's Day in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz.

The announcement of the matchup came Sunday afternoon.

Ten years ago, Ohio State and Notre Dame met in the Fiesta Bowl when the teams were coached by Jim Tressel and Charlie Weis, respectively.
